We Love Thursdays!

What's so special about Thursday, you ask? Well, it's only like the best day of the week here on the island! Thursday is the day when you put your bulk trash out on the curb and garbage men pick it up on Friday. And because people are always PCS'ing and don't have enough space to take large items with them when they move, people just throw it all away. You can find anything on the curbside. Anything from couches to car seats. Most of the items are trash, of course, but occasionally you'll come across a good find. At first we were kind of embarrassed to be digging through other people's stuff. I felt like some homeless person digging through trash. I would always look around to see if anyone was watching! Haha. But I got over that pretty quickly. I don't feel as bad now because I know it's a pretty common practice among those that live on base. And plus, it's free! People throw away everything! Honestly, if I was moving, I would sell a lot of my stuff before putting it on the curb. But, I guess these people don't care about getting money- they just want to get rid of their stuff.

Anyways, here's a few recent finds:

There are always lawn mowers on the side of the road, but usually they are broke. Well, Kyle tried this one out, and lo and behold, it worked! A free lawn mower!!!

I was driving around earlier in the week with a friend, and someone had already put their bulk trash out. We saw the big pile and got out of the car and rummaged through the stuff. I found these cool holders. I didn't know if they were candle holders or plant holders or what exactly they were. So, when I got home I already had some plants in a vase and thought I would try and see if they fit into my new holders. They did! I was so excited, because seriously, what are the odds? But I only had two plants so I have to get another one for my third holder.

I also picked up this pedestal thingie. It's a little on the heavy side. I have no idea what I am going to use it for. Maybe put a plant on it or something. I just thought it was too cool-looking to not take it. Who knows, maybe I'll end up selling it or putting it back on the street. Haha. And Kyle already thinks I have too many plants. He called it my "jungle" the other morning. It's really not that bad, folks.

I also got this rake. For when I eventually get around to doing some yard work.

We also saw a couple of grills but they weren't in the best of shape. We have friends that got theirs off the curb. We are keeping an eye out for a good one! I know you think I am probably way too excited about this. And you're right, I probably am. :-)

Oh Joy, I love your Roman pedestal. It is exactly the thing I want to put in my entryway. And yes, I think a plant would look amazing on it. I was going to put a fern on mine, when I find one that is.
