Bloggy Goodness

I hope you enjoyed Kyle's book, I mean blog about JWTC. :-) It was a good week without him, but it was so nice to have him come home!

Can you believe it is already March?!?! We arrived here on January 16th. I cannot believe how fast it has flown by. Most of you already know, but I will be traveling back to North Carolina in June for Rachel's wedding. Unfortunately, Kyle won't be coming along. The timing just didn't work out and he really doesn't have enough leave saved up. But, I am excited about going!

I will be flying Space Available, meaning I will fly on whatever military flight is heading out near the date I want to leave. The military usually charters a nice commercial plane. This is nice because a flight to Seattle (flights from Okinawa only go to Seattle) costs me about $24. But because I will be doing this, I have to make sure I give myself plenty of time in case I don't make a flight out of here in time for the wedding. Flights leave from here to Seattle every Thursday. If I go in and there are no available seats, I have to wait until the next Thursday and try it again. So, I am planning on flying out from here around May 20. Since I'll be flying into Seattle, it is convenient because my wonderful in-laws only live about an hour away. Hopefully, I can spend some time with them as well before I head to NC. However, from Seattle to NC it looks like I will have to buy a ticket. I have heard that Space A flights fly to NC and SC, but you never really know their schedule and you might get a seat in the cargo area because it won't be a nice commercial airline. So, with something like that, you really need to have a flexible schedule. And since I have to be somewhere on a particular date, I don't want to chance it. But hey, I would much rather buy a plane ticket from WA to NC rather then pay for one from Oki to WA!

Other than getting excited for my trip back home, not much else is new around here. I still haven't gotten a job, but it's probably best since I will be leaving for a couple of weeks in June. I would feel bad starting a job and then having to take that much time off. But once I get back, my quest for a job goes on.

Oh, how'd you like the pictures of Kyle's ankle in his blog? He had an x-ray taken the other day and actually should be getting the results back today. They were worried he may have fractured something. It still looks pretty bad. The doctor gave him crutches; those aren't his favorite. But he's been hobbling around on his ankle pretty well. Hopefully, he didn't fracture it.

Remember the $300 car I mentioned in a previous post? Well, it did not work out. It was a clear sign from God that we weren't supposed to buy it. The crazy thing is, we were planning on buying it before Kyle left for training, but it got pushed back to the week after he came home. Well, Kyle gets home and we call up the owner to let them know we are ready to buy it and apparently, the transmission had gone out! So, needless to say we were glad we hadn't bought it yet. Because if we had bought it the week before, then we would have a broken down vehicle on our hands. You are probably thinking, well, it was only $300... something's gotta be wrong with it. Really, the reason it was so cheap was because the JCI (Japanese insurance that everyone must have in order to drive) had already expired. So, we were going to end up paying another 700-800 dollars on the car. The total would have been about a thousand dollars. Which is still a pretty good deal on a vehicle. However, now we are on the hunt for another good car deal. Hopefully one with a good transmission. :-)
