Let's see... the trip started off well. We eventually got on the road mid- Saturday morning. Here's Izzy in the car all loaded up with way too much stuff. I tend to over pack. We seriously had way too much food and clothes. Especially since we only stayed one night. But no one wants to be stuck out in the wilderness without clean underpants, right?
As we were on our way to the campsite, Kyle exclaims, "Oh no! I forgot the pillows and sleeping bags!" I replied with a slightly less then enthusiastic "Seriously, Kyle? Great." Haha. But no worries, we ended up stopping at a local Japanese mall and found the cheapest pillows and blanket we could find in the store. Easy fix. The beach we went to is a ways up north and we eventually found it. The directions we had were kind of vague, but we got there nonetheless. Once there, we found out that a few people from Kyle's shop were camping there as well. What are the odds?! Seriously, the place is pretty remote and they just so happened to be there the same time we were? It was random, but thankfully there was enough beach that we didn't have to be very close to them. Anyways, once at the beach we lugged all of our stuff down the beach. This was miserable. You couldn't park on the beach, so we parked and had to walk a pretty long ways with all of our stuff. I wasn't sure I was going to survive. But I had to pull my weight and helped Kyle drag everything down to our campsite. Lesson learned: I realized I did NOT need all those extra underwear and snacks. Like I said, we brought way too much stuff.
Once we finally got our stuff there we found a spot and Kyle started working on the tent. Here he is trying to set up.
And here I am with the finished tent. I had to get in there and show him how it's done. Okay, not really. I actually did nothing to help set up the tent....
So after setting up camp we decided to get in the ocean. Ahhhhh. It was marvelous. Glorious, really. The water felt great! It was nice to cool off. Then we had dinner and just relaxed for the rest of the evening. It was very calming and a fun time to just sit with each other and enjoy nature.
When the sun went down we decided to go ahead and call it a night. We got into the tent and it was sooooooo hot in there. I thought I was suffocating. Okay, maybe not... but you know how I tend to exaggerate. It was really hot though. So, Kyle took off the rain covering over the tent and we slept with just the netting on the tent. This really helped. The breeze felt really nice blowing through the tent. It did take a while for the weather to cool down though. We had brought the air mattress which usually feels fairly decent to sleep on. But wow, it was the most uncomfortable thing for me!! Pretty much, I sank into the air mattress and couldn't move. If I wanted to roll over or anything it took all my strength to move- or Kyle had to push me over. No joke. I felt so heavy. Not cool. I could tell it was going to be a long night. And it was. I could not fall asleep for the life of me. Like I said, it was still pretty warm in the tent, it only cooled off after a while of being in there. Plus, Izzy slept in there with us because she was going to sleep right outside our tent, but there were Japanese night fishers near us and she kept growling at them. So picture me, Kyle, and Izzy all on this air mattress. Kyle seemed to have slept just fine. I watched with jealousy as he slept during the night. Then Izzy decides to take up most of my side of the bed. Oh, not to mention since it was so hot during the day I had made sure I was drinking plenty of water. So of course during the night I literally had to get up 4 times to make a trip to the bathroom. The bathroom being a close bush near our tent. Let me just say, squatting was not fun. So between the bathroom breaks, the dog hogging my side of the bed, and the fact that it was hot and muggy in the tent, I thought morning would never come. I literally thought to myself... this is the longest night of my life!!! Once the sun started coming up, I was so happy! The night finally ended. Thank you, Jesus.
So here is Kyle on Sunday morning cooking breakfast. :) He looks so refreshed after a night of rest. No fair. Haha, Just kidding.
After breakfast Kyle went out with some of the Marines and went snorkeling. While he was out with them, I reclined in the beach chair and read with Izzy. I even went swimming for a bit near the shore. It was quite refreshing. Kyle came back and said they saw some amazing things. Lots of sea creatures and different kinds of fish and even some pretty cool underwater caverns. So after they got back from snorkeling, Kyle and I had lunch and hung out on the beach some more. Then it was just getting way too hot and poor Izzy looked like she was going to have a heat stroke. So we decided to pack things up and head back home. We loaded everything up back into the car (which was a job) and took our time heading back home. I thoroughly enjoyed the ride home because the AC was on full blast and I even got to take a nap. I was seriously lacking in the sleep department.
Once home, we put everything away, gave Izzy a bath and cleaned up. Since it was the evening of our anniversary still we decided to go out and enjoy a nice dinner together. We didn't bother going to watch any fireworks because we knew traffic would be crazy and it was too hot to sit outside and watch them anyways. So we came back home and cuddled and watched a movie. Perfect way to end the weekend.
All in all, great weekend. Next time we go camping, Isaiah gets to come with us! (Well, he was with us this time, but you know what I mean.) :)
