A Walk Down Memory Lane

I know my parents will appreciate the pictures I am about to put up, but I wanted to share them with everyone. Some of you may not know, but my family was stationed here in Okinawa from 1991 to 1994. I attended K-4 thru 1st grade here. I remember a good bit of when I lived on the island the first time. Well, today I was on Camp Lester, and decided to swing by our old house that we lived in! It looks just how I remember it. For some odd reason, I always remembered our house number and telephone number. We lived at 6191 B and our number was 645-8604. I think the reason I remember our old phone number so well was because I had it written all over my Bible that I used while we lived here. Not sure why I wrote it in my Bible... maybe in case I ever needed my number to call home from church? Ha. I kept that Bible for a long time. I'm actually not even sure where it is now. But anyyyyways, it was really neat to stop by the old place. Saw a few familiar trees that my brother and I played on. Also, I saw where we played our little league soccer games. Pretty cool that I ended up back here-- with my husband! :)

Here it is! 6191 B (the door on the right.) And in case you were wondering, Kyle and I do not live on Camp Lester. This is actually about 45 minutes away from where we live. I'll post pics of our house soon.

This is a picture of the back of the hospital. We could see it from our old house. We would watch helicopters land on the helo pad. It was always exciting to watch. :) Sorry this isn't the best picture; I was driving in my car.

Here is the front of the hospital. Once again, not a great picture. I was still driving. And isn't it awesome how I managed to capture that random post in the ground? Good grief.
OH, change of subject. I wanted to give you an update on our carpet... because I KNOW you are just curious about our carpet. ;) Kyle finally got done with his movie and helped me put in the carpet. Actually, he did most of the work... carpet is heavy! Isn't it pretty?

Switching subjects again. You know how in NC there is a church on almost every corner? Well, there is seriously a soda machine on every corner of this island! You think I'm joking... these people love their drinks. You can even get hot drinks in some of the machines. I just had to stop and take a picture of this lonely drink machine we pass almost every day driving to our house. It's literally sitting against a wall of vines. Apparently, it gets good business. By the way, Kyle loves the Japanese Mountain Dew. Their drinks are not as carbonated as the ones in the US. However, be it American Mountain Dew or Japanese Mountain Dew, I don't like either!

This is the tiny little Japanese road that the vending machine sits on the side of. It's hard to capture the skininess of this road, but just imagine two cars going through it. Tight squeeze. Thankfully, I have my little Nissan! Oh, it looks like we may be buying a car for Kyle. And guess for how much?! ....... $300. We'll see, the owner hasn't called us back about a time to do the papers. More on this later.

It's really neat that you got to see your old house. The carpet looks nice and the government furniture isn't too shabby either. Do you have furniture coming in your shipment? I love reading all of the updates...you're a much better blogger than I am.

Hey Mary,

We are very thankful for the government furniture. We did not ship any furniture over. We heard it was best to not travel with any. So, we sold it all back in J-ville. Most of it was second-hand or free stuff (and all mis-matched.) We plan on saving money to buy furniture here or when we return to the states. For now, we are enjoying our issued items.
